Tampa Bankruptcy Attorney
Here’s the short answer
We are a bankruptcy practice based in Tampa, and bankruptcy is what we do.
Alan Borden has practiced consumer bankruptcy since 2008 and has run this firm since 2015. Cases are filed in the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division — the court is a fifteen-minute drive from our office, and we are in it regularly.
Where we are
Our office is in Paramount Plaza on North Dale Mabry Highway, north Tampa.

Parking is free and on-site. If getting here is difficult, say so when you call — a first consultation can be done by phone or video, and often is.
Who we help
Most of our clients live in Hillsborough, Pinellas, Pasco or Polk County, though we file for clients across Florida. People come to us when:
- Wages are being garnished, or a garnishment notice has arrived
- A foreclosure has been filed, or a sale date has been set
- A car has been repossessed, or is about to be
- Medical bills have gone to collections after an illness
- Credit card balances have stopped going down no matter what is paid
- A debt collector has sued, and there is a court date
If any of those is happening now, timing matters. Filing triggers the automatic stay, which stops garnishment, collection calls and — in most cases — a foreclosure sale, from the moment the case is filed.
Why people choose this firm
- You speak to the attorney. Not an intake screener working from a script.
- Bankruptcy is the whole practice. Not a sideline to a personal injury firm.
- For clients who qualify, no attorney’s fees before filing. Court filing fees and credit counseling are separate and still payable up front — see what it costs.

More about AlanThe Tampa bankruptcy court
Cases here are filed with the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division, at 801 North Florida Avenue. Your meeting of creditors — the one hearing most Chapter 7 filers attend — is a short, administrative meeting with the trustee, not a trial, and not in front of a judge. We attend it with you.
Where we file
Our office is in Tampa, but bankruptcy is federal, and admission is by court — not by county.
Alan Borden is admitted in all three of Florida’s federal districts: the Middle, Northern, and Southern. That means if you live anywhere in Florida, in any of its 67 counties, we can file your case in the court that has your county.
And in most cases you will never drive to a courthouse. Since October 2023, the U.S. Trustee has held the meeting of creditors — the one appearance almost every filer has to make — by Zoom in Chapter 7, 12, and 13 cases. You attend from home. For someone in Marion County or the Panhandle, that removes the only practical reason distance ever mattered.
Your county decides which court handles your case. Here’s where yours goes.

Which county is mine?
The rule is where you’ve lived for most of the last 180 days — not where you work, and not where your creditors are. If you moved recently, that answer can be less obvious than it looks, and filing in the wrong district causes real delay. It’s one of the first things we sort out at the consultation.
